Judo NSW Challenge (1st State Selection)
This year six Yuukan members travelled for the first of the three State selections. (13-11-11).
To be eligable to compete in the Australian National team, the player must medal in two of three State Selections.
Then they are invited to train with other medalists before being selected for the NSW team.
It was not as hot as in past years, but thankfully we were all over prepared, with ice in the eskis, towels and lots of iced water.
It was Riley and Lance first state tournament. Riley was unfortunate to not win a medal but fought extremely hard against many experienced competitors.
Lance bought home the bronze medal. Luke and Michael were again in the same divisioin, but this time the divisions were made so they all had to fight everyone in the division. Michael showed great techniques but was unlucky not to bring home a medal. Luke fought well and with only a fight to go for first place, he was unfortunate, with a close decision he bought home the Silver medal. Molly was put in two divisions and showed that she is capable to compete with much bigger girls She came home with the Gold medal in her division and Bronze medal in the above division. Blake also came out strong in his division and came home with the gold medal.
Blake travelled to Homebush the following weekend (20-11-11) for the Junior/senior mens division. He weighed in at 54.4kg. But unfortunately there was no one in his usual Under 55kg division or the next division up in under 60kg, so Blake thought that he would give the under 66kg a go. He fought extrememly hard and did a great job against the much bigger and experienced competitiors, and although he did not medal came away with a smile on his face and very very sore arms.
Congratulations Blake, you are an insperation to many judoka. I think you get that off Sensei Chris.
We wish our members good luck for the following two selections in the future.
