Yuukan Judo Club

2011 Australian National Chapionships Perth

Yuukan members arrived in Perth after a very bumpy flight from Sydney.
The kids all had a great time and thanks to Annie, stayed relaxed and calm, cant say the same for Gayle and Ray, but they gave the kids all something to laugh about.
We were taken to our house by shuttle bus, AND amazing, the house was fantastic. Loads of bedrooms, Loads of space, TV rooms, a pool and a great games room for us all.

We then hopped on the bus that was just a quick walk and went shopping. (haha something that we did lots of)
Sensei Chris came and we went to the Joondalup Arena and weighed in, everyone made weight easily and we caught the bus home for a BIG dinner.
Nationals day had arrived, It was a great day, but a very long day. With Blake, Molly and Luke all  fighting for third and Blake and Molly successfully getting the bronze medal, unfortunatley by the time it came for Luke and Michael to fight it was 5pm WA time and 7pm NSW time, Luke was exhausted and tired., so he just missed out by a yuko and he came away with 4th,  Michael showed great judo but with so many boys in his division he was out after just losing his first fight.
Sensei Chris was so proud of the 4 of them, and it was great to know it was over and we all could relax and get on with having a holiday in Perth.

We went back to the house and invited back St Georges Basin Judo Club with us for our traditional Pizza, Garlic bread and drinks.
The trip was short lived for Chris as he had to fly back the next day because his little girl was taken ill and was in hospital.
We all stayed on and did more shopping and became a true tourist, by visiting the Perth Mint, Perth chocolate Factory, Fremantle Maritime Museum, Fremantle Prision, Fremantle Seafood Markets oh and MORE shopping. We orgainised a day out with Illawarra International Judo Club and we all went to the Perth Aquarium. The kids all had a great time and it was a nice way to end our last day in Perth.

Our holiday was over and we packed up to go home, but we were called to say flights had been cancelled because of  volcanic ash, we were settling in for another night when we were called and told to get to the airport as our flight was going to be the last one out. This then sent alarm bells for the 2 that HATE flying, and it was extremely difficult to get them on the plane. After some coaxing and some relaxing techniques... they got on the plane.
The sight of Sydney Harbour Bridge was the best sight to ever see.

Our fun week did not end there, after Annie went to unlock her car and the key broke in the lock, after another night sleep we all managed to get home safe and sound. It took us about two weeks to get over our week away.
We are so excited that it has been announced that the Nationals will be hosted in Wollongong for the next 3 years, as i am pretty sure that will be how long it will take to get us on the plane again.  .
