2012 has been a fantastic judo year with lots of medals and trophys, as many of our "newer" members choosing to go to tournaments in ACT and competing with many clubs in Canberra, this has been fantastic for our newer members who can get experience and practice their techniques but also for our competitive members who have been able to practice on other opponents before competing at the bigger tournaments.
We have also had a great time with Illawarra International Judo Club (sensei Alan and Ben Broadhead and Greg Cordirin) and St Georges Basin Judo Club (sensei Greg Grainger) with the interclub tournaments, again this has been of great benefit to all 3 clubs and our members and their parents have been able to build friendships. This friendship between the clubs saw Blake and Steven, Luke and Danyon, Riley and James, Michael and Molly, Anthony and Jordan come together to practice and compete at the first junior Kata Nationals held in Wollongong. This opportunity would not have been possible if our clubs had not come together and friendships formed.
2012 saw Yuukan Judo Club being nominated for a club of the year award for the JFA Gala Awards..
2012 saw Blake representing our club as a reserve in the NTID - where he trained at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) and representing Australia at the Oceanias in Cairns and in New Zealand at the Auckland Open and being nominated as the top 5 cadet men for JFA 2012 Gala Awards.
2012 also saw Blake, Michael, Luke, Molly, Lance and Riley compete at the Australian Nationals in Wollongong, at the NSW state selections in Homebush and the International Opens in NSW, ACT, VIC, SA and QLD.
As a group we stayed in many fantastic holiday homes around Australia, but this years pick of the spots and best adventure had to be while in South Australia where we visited the Adelaide Zoo.
2012 Also saw the kindness of our community, with the financial support for our members who were competing with donations, grants, sponsorships and prizes for raffles. So a huge thank you to Jill Morris, Nancy and Graham Mitchell, The Kioloa/Bawley Point Sport and Recreation Club, IGA Bawley Point, Nowra Steak House, . Your donations and generousity to our members is truly appreciated.
2012 saw not only great times but also some difficult times, but this is what makes us not just a club, but a "judo Family" (one such sad news is the leaving of "The Rado Family" we will miss your smiling faces of a Tuesday Night but i know we will see you at tournaments and competitions as you change judo clubs and make a new life in ACT.. please be sure to keep in touch and we will catch up as we barrack for different sides on the mat.
2012 saw Eva, Amelie, Riley, Luke awarded the age tounament point score champions, Blake the Judoka award. Amelie junior encouragement award, Molly senior encouragement award and Blake the perpetual judo spirit award.
Thanks to Sensei Chris for another successful year, to the parents who are always there to lend a hand and also to all the kids, without you ALL we would not have the great club that we do..
