2016 International Open
Yuukan Judo Club members competed at the International Open 20/21st February 2016 for the first competition for the year, but also the first major competition for many of our players.
It was not only an exciting weekend for our members but also the parents who were all grateful turning up to the competition in one piece - one way streets, wrong ways around roundabouts, boot being left up and driving off, broken toe, getting lost (and.. it was the fault of the navman.. haha), But for our members, we are so proud of them all.
Day one -
Amelie who has just gone up to the Seniors Girls, had 2 fights, but unfortunately lost both. It was an awesome effort for
the start to her new division.
Rylan also went up to the next division, but also the lowest weight division of the Senior boys competition. Rylans division is a huge division and losing a fight usually means that one does not get another fight. Unfortunately for Rylan this was the case.
Jono had some extremely controversial calls, even being stood up in the middle of a ground hold, This was a great experience for him and a great way to welcome him to JFA and the referring.
Christabella, she was probably the one that out of all the newer competitors we were worried about the most, her division and it being her first ever competition... but, we did not have to have any concerns, it was awesome to see her in full action and compete with others her own weight.

Day one saw one medal a SILVER .... which was won by Bella
Day Two -
Yuukan had a huge day 2.
Ottis, Drew and Raedon were all in the same division, this division is also the lightest weight division in the junior boys, Ottis and Drew looked so little compared to some of the other competitors.
This was a fantastic competition for all three to compete in for their first major competition and all showed great sportsmanship and technique.
Bodin, again his first major competition, competed with great technique and was getting out of ground holds and watching him was very exciting.
Emily had competitors that had been competing for a while, so they had the knowledge and technique to control the fights, Emily got out of many ground holds and she also threw these girls many times. It was a great to watch Emily and i think she will get a lot out of this competition to take into future ones.
Eva fought some girls that were very strong, she managed to get out of many of the grips around the head, but these girls were consistent, Eva showed great technique and i know that she will take this experience back to training.
Penny was the last one to compete in the Senior Women from our club and her training with jujitsu was a great asset to her, with an arm bar win and another win by submission. Unfortunately losing a fight put her in the bronze medal fight.
Day two saw two medals both BRONZE ....
which were won by Ottis and Penny
