General policies
YUUKAN CLUB RULES and ETIQUETTE
1. All students are to bow as they enter the Dojo and mat area
* Please be on time ready to train
Uniform on and Gi clean, Finger and toe nails clipped, take off all hairclips, earrings, watches, bracelets and other jewellery, hands and feet clean, drink bottle full.
If any injuries – Tape and bandaid on etc.
(Please do not expect staff to do these tasks, they should all be done before judo)
2. Shoes are to be worn to and from hall.
* Shoes are to be lined up neatly at front door.
* Shoes are never to be worn on the mats.
Especially in the cooler months as we do not want mud and dirt on the mats as foot dirt ends up on your judo Gi, face etc
3. No student is to enter the mat area unless instructed to by the Sensei or staff.
4. All finger and toe nails are to be kept clipped short and clean.
Please do this BEFORE training as it interrupts our class session.
5. Hands and feet must be washed and cleaned.
6. No jewellery is be worn. Earrings are a huge issue, as they can get caught and be easily ripped from the ears.
Please remove all jewellery, hair clips, watches etc before you hop onto the judo mat as it interrupts with the training of judo
(if jewellery needs to have tape on, please do this before judo as we do not keep tape for covering earrings etc)
7. GI must be cleaned and washed. A T-Shirt
(no buttons, zips, No school shirts etc) to be worn or taken to judo for Non Gi training
Good hygiene is a must and in the colder months a T-shirt is a great idea, in the summer months we do take Gi off as it can get extremely hot when training
8. All students will listen to the Sensei's instructions and complete them.-
staff reserve the right to discipline accordingly (in form of physical discipline such as pushups, situps, etc) but if needed, they could be asked to leave the mat area for a period of time.,
*we would hope that you support us in this decision as judo is a martial art, it is combative and injury can and does take place, this will help in keeping injury levels low and the level of the risk of hurting others on the mat low.
9. All students will respect themselves and each other.
10. Parents of students under 12 are expected to stay,
however, we do understand that this cant be the case every lesson, but we do expect that you make an effort in supporting your child and their judo journey.
*we may ask parents of members older than 12 to stay if needed.
*we ask the parents to please keep voices down to a minimum or go outside to have conversations with other parents.
11. As the toilets are outside, a parent MUST accompany their son/daughter.
If the parent is unavailable, the member will be accompanied by another peer or an adult with a WWCC.
*although we ask all our members parents to have a WWCC children often need going to the toilet and it is more appropriate that their own parent should be there to do that. We appreciate your help in this.
12. You MUST bring your own drink bottle
*the water is not very nice and although the water can be refilled it is better for them to have safe and clean water.
13. Sick children.-
If your child is sick, please be considerate to other members and keep your child at home, not only because we don't want to spread sickness, etc but a child is not fit to exhort him/herself when they are not feeling themselves.
If they take medicine, eg asthma puffer etc, please make sure that it is administered by yourself, as, we as staff, can not administer any medication to your child.
The staff reserve the right to assess the child and if they feel that they are too sick will ask the parent (or if the parent is not there) to be removed from the mat area.
14. Injury.
If your child is injured or hurt eg cuts or sores etc, please make sure that they have sufficient bandaids or tape (before they hop on the mat)
Any issues with the Yuukan Judo Club should be discussed with a member of staff as soon as possible. (Chris or Gayle)
