2012 Illawarra International Judo Camp

Members of Yuukan Judo Club attended the 2012 Illawarra Camp, Blake, Luke, Michael and Molly. The 4 members had a great time and were treated to many different coaches and senseis on mat over both days of the camp. Blake had had a (skateboard) accident, and had taken the skin off his shoulder, so we were all wondering how he would go, and we are pleased to say "he did fine".

The Camp is successfully run by NSW Sensei Alan Broadhead, QLD Sensei Stuart Brain and VIC Sensei Michael Picken
The Camp is aimed at competition players aspiring to national and international competition. The camp has run successfully over the past years by inviting quality competition players who freely share their expertise during coaching sessions and then follow it up with solid randori sessions.
The Friday night is set up as a randori night and an evening of getting to know each other. The Saturday is followed with techniques and randori. The Sunday is more techniques and putting into practice what they learn over the weekend.

This year the Camp coincided with the Dapto Show, so many of the players enjoyed the Saturday evening having a great time watching the monster trucks, the Toyota utes, the lumberjack show, rides, food and other show entertainment. In the "other entertainment" was the WWI wrestling, this was watched by the kids that were really excited to see what wresting involved, they were all pretty shocked when they realised that it was not "real" wrestling at all, the parents managed to enjoy, not the wrestling, but the kids faces trying to work out what was actually going on.

We would really like to thank Sensei Alan Broadhead and the Illawarra International judo club for hosting another great year, but also all the senseis and coaches who also took their time to come for the weekend and share their knowledge and experience with us all.  We will see you in 2013.
