QLD International Open 2nd/3rd March 2013

What a fun filled 4 days.
Chris, Gayle, Blake and Michael flew out of Sydney on the Thursday and after a delayed flight landed in Brisbane.
Our motel was clean and nice and was convenient to the judo at Sommersville House and to the bus and trains in South Bank.
The staff were friendly and extremely helpful, we are sure to stay again at the Ambassador Motel Inn.

On the Friday was Michaels 15th Birthday, Chris and Gayle decided that a "superman" tattoo would be the way to go in celebration of his day. We walked around South Bank (yes a Gayle hike) and saw some amazing lizards. It started to rain so we headed off to the science museum where we went to the lazer light show and the dinosour show, we met up with the Zahra's from Illawarra International Judo Club, and we had a great time laughed heaps.

Friday night Weigh ins went great  and we were in and out quickly and back at the motel for dinner and a good nights sleep (yes, again with Gayle snoring and Blake talking).

Saturday morning was wet again, so we opted for a taxi trip to judo. Michael was up first to compete and  compete well he did.
It looked like the "superman" tattoo was a winner when he won his first fight, however, the next ones did not go in Michaels favour and although fighting for the Bronze medal he walked away in 5th spot. Junior men proved just as difficult, and being his first competiton to fight up the division Michael pulled out some amazing judo. He managed some great bruises on his checks and neck as well as his shins. Well done Michael, QLD Open is really tough, as it is for the qualifier for Oceanias.
Blake was next to compete and he won his first fight and went on to win the silver medal against Sam King. It is fantastic to watch the competiton between Sam and Blake as they both have beautiful clean judo. Junior men was extremely contested in the Under 66kg, Blake also managed to fight for the Bronze medal against Nathan Katz, however Nathan threw him with a lovely ippon to put Blake out of junior men.
With Blake winning Silver in QLD Open and the Bronze medal in ACT Open, Hopefully, it sees him qualify for the 2013 Oceanias held in Cairns in April.
